Carbon dioxide(CO₂) reduction using biochar is done by burying biochar in farmland to store carbon. The amount of captured CO₂ can easily be measured using the weight or volume of the biochar. The Japan Cool Vege Association uses the measurement results to certify vegetables grown on farmland with certain amount of biochar, as“Cool Vege®”.
“Cool Vege®” is a brand that can contribute to the mitigation of global warming. This trademark is designed to create brands suitable to crops of all regions. “Cool Vege®” can nationally be used as basic brand for environmental conservation and can easily include the names of the local crop and region.
Combining “Cool Vege®” trademark with the local crop and regional brands can easily penetrate both local and conscious consumers while increasing customer perceived value.
